Koh Rong + Koh Rong Sanloem, Cambodia

A million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the capital, Phnom Penh, lies Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem. The islands are an hour boat ride from Sihanoukville and are unbelievable.

I first stayed on Koh Rong which is the party island. I didn’t partake in much partying as it’s soooo expensive in cambodia and I was spending too much time sunning myself on the beach!

Spent 3 days here which was a nice mix between fun and relaxing. It’s crazy how small the backpacker world is as on the beach I bumped into 4 people that I’ve met in other cities in different countries! I had also planned to meet Beth and Emma my friends from volunteering. It was so nice to be back with them and we did a night time boat tour to see the UV plankton which was amazing! Such an unreal experience to see them light up the sea and snorkel amping them.

Koh Rong Sanloem is the smaller island of the two and basically uninhabited apart from a few hostels and guest houses. The beach and sea are some of the best I’ve ever seen and I could happily stay here forever!

I feel very lucky to have visited these places now as many of the plots of land have been bought by Chinese companies who wish to completely change the islands from a little spot of rustic beauty into commercialised money makers, so in 10 years I’m sure this place will be very spoilt and nothing like it is today.

Back to main land tomorrow

glad to see you are getting some relaxation in, the backpackers world is very small and I was always bumping into people when I travelled that I had met previously. Keep enjoying the experience.
